Itanagar, April 16: Arunachal Pradesh Governor K. T. Parnaik met Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in New Delhi on Wednesday, requesting central support to strengthen sports infrastructure and agri-horticulture sectors in the state.
During the meeting, the governor highlighted the potential of youth in sports and stressed the need for modern facilities to support talent development. He sought funding for a dedicated football stadium in Itanagar, along with integrated sports complexes and academies in the western and eastern regions of the state.
Parnaik also proposed the development of sports infrastructure in higher education institutions to promote wider participation and competitive opportunities among students.
In the agri-horticulture sector, he pointed to the growth of kiwi cultivation in Arunachal Pradesh as a significant area of strength. He proposed the establishment of an integrated pack house with solar-powered cold storage at the Shergaon horticulture farm in West Kameng district to improve post-harvest management, reduce losses, and support farmers’ income.
