The Arunachal Pradesh government and NHPC Limited have signed the agreement for the 3,097 MW Etalin Hydroelectric Project in Dibang Valley, marking a major milestone in the state’s hydropower push.
The project, once completed, will generate around 11,600 Million Units of clean energy annually. The scale of development will strengthen the national grid, support economic growth, and bring infrastructure, jobs, and opportunity to remote regions.
The NHPC Limited will execute the project with a mandate to ensure sustainable and structured development, keeping local communities as stakeholders in the process.
The agreement was finalized during a key Steering Committee meeting on Hydro Power Development chaired by the state government. The committee reviewed the entire portfolio of hydroelectric projects under Central PSUs and Independent Power Producers in detail.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu sent a strong message at the meeting, “No delays, no excuses, and no slow movement”. “Every project, every bottleneck, every timeline all under sharp focus,” Khandu added.
The Etalin project is among the largest hydropower initiatives in the country and is expected to play a critical role in India’s clean energy transition while driving development in Dibang Valley.
