Itanagar, May 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the appointment of Dr Joram Aniya from Arunachal Pradesh as a full-time member of NITI Aayog, marking a historic moment for the state. The official notification confirmed that Dr Aniya, along with Dr R Balasubramaniam, will serve on the same terms and conditions applicable to full-time members of the institution, with appointments effective from the date of assumption of charge.
Officials noted that Dr Aniya’s inclusion brings an eminent intellectual voice from Arunachal Pradesh into the highest level of national policymaking. An accomplished academician and Associate Professor, she also serves on the Arunachal Pradesh Private Educational Regulatory Commission and has over 18 years of experience in teaching, research, and public policy engagement.
She is the first woman from the Nyishi community to earn a PhD, and the first in Hindi language in the state, with significant contributions to literature, culture, and indigenous knowledge systems. Her work includes authoring and editing books on Nyishi literature and culture, alongside numerous research publications.
Prime Minister Modi, in a recent post on April 25, expressed his best wishes on the reconstitution of NITI Aayog, describing it as a vital pillar in India’s policy-making architecture. He highlighted its role in fostering cooperative federalism, driving reforms, and enhancing the ease of living for citizens, while serving as a dynamic platform for innovation and long-term strategic thinking.
NITI Aayog, the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India, plays a central role in catalyzing economic development and fostering cooperative federalism through the involvement of state governments in policymaking using a bottom-up approach.
