MDoNER Sanctions 75 Health, Education Projects Worth Rs 3,601 Cr in Northeast

Agartala, February 4, 2026: The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) has sanctioned a total of 75 projects in the health and education sectors across the Northeastern states during the period from 2022–23 to 2025–26, with an overall approved cost of Rs 3,601.06 crore, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday .

Of the sanctioned projects, 49 pertain to education and 26 to the health sector. As of December 31, 2025, the Centre has released Rs 1,635.39 crore, out of which Rs 995.37 crore has been utilized, reflecting steady progress in infrastructure development across the region .

Among the states, Assam received the highest allocation with projects worth Rs 1,532.77 crore, followed by Tripura with Rs 501.32 crore and Manipur with Rs 448.70 crore. Sikkim showed strong utilization, having spent Rs 276.27 crore out of Rs 279.71 crore released, indicating effective implementation on the ground.

The data also shows allocations to Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and projects executed through other agencies, ensuring balanced regional development.

An independent evaluation conducted by IIM Shillong has underlined the critical role of MDoNER schemes in strengthening social infrastructure in the Northeast, particularly in improving access to healthcare facilities and educational institutions.
