Itanagar, Jan 9: Six people stranded on an island in the Siang River in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district were rescued on Wednesday after they were unable to return due to inclement weather.

The group had gone to the island to collect stink bugs using a country boat. However, heavy rain and worsening weather conditions left them trapped. The Mebo police station received an alert about the situation around 8:30 pm, prompting immediate action.

A rescue team comprising police and disaster response personnel reached the site around 10:30 pm. Due to darkness and heavy rainfall, the operation was postponed until the next morning, when the team successfully brought the stranded individuals to safety.

The rescued persons were identified as Opang Tamuk (41), Punchung Rai (19), Rajen Narzari (19), Sompa Marpeche (19), Santosh Chetry (21), and Vijay Tamang (17).
