Assam Rifles Busts Illegal Currency And Narcotics Smuggling In Mizoram

Aizawl, Jan 19: Assam Rifles intercepted two major smuggling attempts in Mizoram, recovering illegal foreign currency and methamphetamine tablets worth crores, and apprehending the suspects involved.

In the first case, on January 16, troops acting on intelligence set up a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) in the Lungbun area of Siaha district. Around 11:30 am, a suspicious vehicle was stopped at a road junction, leading to the seizure of Burmese Kyat worth 1,40,82,000. One individual involved in the smuggling was arrested. The currency and suspect were handed over to local police for further investigation.

Earlier, on January 2, Assam Rifles, in coordination with Mizoram Police, conducted a joint operation near the Indo-Myanmar border in Kaifang area of Saitual district, acting on credible information about narcotics trafficking. The raid resulted in the recovery of 11.062 kg of methamphetamine tablets—a psychotropic substance with an estimated international market value of Rs 33.186 crore—along with a vehicle. Hasan Ali from Badarpur, Assam, was arrested during the operation. The contraband and vehicle were handed over to Saitual police for further investigation.
