Assam Rifles, Customs Seize ₹40 Lakh Worth Banned Cough Syrup in Tripura

Agartala, April 14, 2026: In a continued crackdown on illegal narcotics trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Customs Department, Agartala, recovered a significant consignment of banned cough syrup in Tripura.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched in the Taranagar area, located about 20 km northeast of Agartala, on April 13, 2026.

During the raid, security personnel seized 140 cases of codeine-based cough syrup, suspected to be meant for illegal distribution. The estimated market value of the recovered consignment is around ₹40 lakh.

Officials stated that the seized items have been handed over to the Customs Department for further legal action.

The Assam Rifles reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and ensuring a drug-free environment in the region.
