Guwahati, Nov 13: Assam Police have arrested 15 individuals across the state for allegedly posting offensive content on social media following the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, which killed 12 people and injured several others.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the arrests on Thursday, stating that these were in addition to six individuals apprehended earlier. The arrested persons are reportedly from Bongaigaon, Hailakandi, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Hojai, Kamrup, and South Salmara districts. “Assam Police remains uncompromising against those who glorify violence,” Sarma said.
The Chief Minister had earlier warned that strict action would be taken against individuals supporting terrorism, noting that such elements were attempting to disturb peace in the state.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have suggested a wider terror conspiracy behind Monday’s blast. Sources indicated that the accused were preparing at least two vehicles, including a Hyundai i20 and a Ford EcoSport, for coordinated attacks at multiple locations. Investigators are probing whether additional vehicles were being modified for similar attacks.
Preliminary findings suggest that eight suspects planned simultaneous explosions in four cities, operating in pairs with multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Individuals previously linked to terror cases, including Dr. Muzammil, Dr. Adeel, Dr. Umar, and Shaheen, are reportedly under investigation.
Delhi Police confirmed on Thursday that Dr. Umar Un Nabi was the person killed in the car explosion near Red Fort. DNA analysis matched his biological samples with those of his mother, conclusively identifying him. A senior police officer told ANI that Umar’s body was found trapped behind the wheel, indicating he was driving at the time of the blast. DNA samples from his family were sent to AIIMS for forensic verification.
The explosion occurred near the Lal Quila Metro Station, leaving 12 people dead and several others injured.
