Guwahati, Jan 9: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam on Thursday criticised Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi over his recent allegations related to a BJP virtual meeting and voter deletion, dismissing the claims as unfounded and lacking evidence.
In an official statement, BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi said the allegations made by Gogoi over the past few days were “imaginary” and not supported by facts. Medhi alleged that Gogoi has a history of making similar claims over the years, which, according to him, fail to stand scrutiny over time.
Medhi said the BJP does not consider Gogoi’s statements as serious political issues and accused him of repeatedly making assertions that he claimed were later proven false. He also criticised the Congress and other opposition parties for supporting Gogoi’s allegations without verification, particularly on the issue of alleged voter deletions.
The BJP spokesperson further stated that the opposition in Assam was struggling to raise what he described as credible issues and accused them of creating confusion through unsubstantiated claims. He asserted that people in the state have confidence in the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Responding to opposition criticism, Medhi claimed that allegations against the BJP alliance have not found public support. He also accused opposition parties of attempting to polarise voters through repeated attacks on the government, adding that, according to him, such narratives are being rejected by the public.
Akhil Gogoi and opposition parties have not issued an immediate response to the BJP’s latest statement.
