Guwahati, May 6: Assam’s Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel on Wednesday formally submitted the results of the recently concluded Assembly elections to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Lok Bhawan. A delegation from the CEO’s office, led by Goel, presented the list of newly elected legislators to the governor.

With the official results now handed over, the process of government formation will begin. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a third consecutive term in Assam, winning a two-thirds majority in the 126-member House. The BJP claimed 82 seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front won 10 each.

On the opposition side, the Congress secured 19 seats, with its ally Raijor Dal winning two. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) managed two constituencies, and the Trinamool Congress opened its account with one seat.

The single-phase election was held on April 9, and votes were counted on May 4, paving the way for the NDA’s decisive victory and the next stage of government formation in the state.
