Guwahati, May 8: The Assam government has initiated steps to integrate various state-level databases, including Smart City data, crime records and land registration details, with the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) following a review meeting chaired by the Union Home Secretary.

The review was conducted through a video conference attended by Chief Secretaries and Advisors to Administrators of States and Union Territories. Senior Assam government officials, along with the Director General of Police (DGP), also participated in the meeting.

NATGRID, an attached office under the Ministry of Home Affairs approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), functions as a secure intelligence-sharing platform aimed at strengthening national and internal security, including counter-terror operations.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the integration of State and Union Territory databases with NATGRID for secure and seamless data sharing. Databases identified for integration include Smart City systems, utility billing records, land and property registration records, crime and offences databases, licensing records, education-related databases and beneficiary-oriented scheme databases.

The meeting also reviewed the increasing use of the NATGRID platform by States and Union Territories and ongoing capacity-building programmes for police and enforcement agencies across the country.

Following the meeting, the Assam government directed all concerned departments to identify and map databases under their jurisdictions for integration with NATGRID as per prescribed technical protocols and requirements.

Officials were also instructed to ensure timely inter-departmental coordination and cooperation with technical agencies for API development, connectivity and other integration-related processes.

Senior officials from the concerned departments were present during the meeting.
