A 30-year-old woman assistant engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) was found dead in her rented apartment in Bongaigaon on Monday in a suspected case of suicide.

The deceased, a resident of Guwahati, had recently been transferred to Bongaigaon. A handwritten suicide note was recovered from the scene, in which she alleged being mentally harassed and pressured to clear fraudulent bills by two senior officials.

Based on the note and a complaint filed by the family, police arrested Superintendent Engineer Dinesh Medhi Sharma and Sub-Divisional Officer Aminul Islam under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment of suicide). The note has been sent for forensic analysis.

The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken if more individuals are found to be involved.
