Guwahati, Mar 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday released its second list of candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, naming Jiban Gogoi from Sissirborgaon and Sushri Krishna Saha from Dalgaon.

With this, the party has announced candidates for a total of 90 constituencies, following its first list of 88 candidates released on March 19. The initial list included several former Congress leaders, such as Pradyut Bordoloi, who will contest from Dispur after joining the BJP, and Bhupen Kumar Borah, fielded from Bihpuria.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to contest from Jalukbari, a seat he currently represents. He had earlier indicated that the party would contest 89 seats, later clarifying that the candidate for Sissirborgaon would be announced separately.

The BJP is contesting the elections in alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).

Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress on Friday released its fourth list of seven candidates, taking its total to 94 candidates for the 126-member Assembly. The list includes Jayanta Borah, Bidisha Neog, Rohit Pariga, Joy Prakash Das, Gyandip Mohan, Pran Kurmi, and Rahul Roy. The party has allocated 11 seats to its ally, the Raijor Dal.

Polling for all 126 constituencies will be held in a single phase on April 9, with counting scheduled for May 4, according to the Election Commission of India.
