Agartala, January 28, 2026: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Wednesday said that “development means working for the people and ensuring their fundamental rights,” as he inaugurated two major healthcare projects and laid the foundation stone for another in Sabroom subdivision.

At the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital premises, the Chief Minister inaugurated a Blood Centre with a capacity of 300 units and a 50-bed Integrated AYUSH Hospital. He also virtually laid the foundation stone of the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Fire Service Station at Purba Jalefa. To mark the occasion, a blood donation camp was organized where 30 donors participated.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha emphasized that blood donation is an act of compassion, noting that “there is no substitute for blood.” He highlighted the critical need for blood in road accidents, surgeries, and cesarean deliveries. Tripura currently has 12 government-run and 2 private blood centres, along with six plasma separation units.

The Chief Minister said the state’s healthcare services are steadily improving, reducing the need for patients to travel outside Tripura for advanced treatment. He pointed out that kidney transplants are now being performed within the state and that a super-specialty wing at GBP Hospital has been established at a cost of ₹250 crore.

Dr. Saha announced that MBBS seats in the state have been increased to 350, while a Dental College has been set up to expand opportunities in dental studies. Nursing seats (GNM and ANM) have also been increased by 50. A Pharmacy College worth ₹900 crore is planned, along with a new Medical College in ADC areas.

He further noted that Tripura now hosts a National Forensic University and a Law University, attracting investors to establish medical and educational hubs in the state.

Highlighting welfare schemes, Dr. Saha said that under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, every citizen is entitled to free treatment up to ₹5 lakh. Similarly, the state has launched the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana, making Tripura the only state in India to bring its entire population under health insurance coverage.

The Chief Minister announced several upcoming initiatives, including: Expansion of Agartala Government Medical College to 1,513 beds; Establishment of a Telemedicine Department; Construction of a Mother and Child Hospital; Expansion of the Dental College; A modern Eye Hospital near ILS Hospital; A Homeopathy College at Renters Colony (₹75 crore); An Ayurvedic College at Tepania (₹75 crore); and Plans for a Health University in Agartala.

He also mentioned affordable meal facilities for patients’ attendants at ₹10, along with low-cost accommodation at Bharat Mata Canteen. Trauma care centres are being opened in district hospitals, and over 10 lakh children and adolescents have been included in the Healthy Childhood, Healthy Adolescence programme.

Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia said that healthcare services have significantly improved across districts, subdivisions, and rural areas under the current government.

The event was attended by South Tripura District Magistrate Mohammad Sajjad P., Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Rama Poddar Dey, MLA Mailayu Mog, South Tripura SP Maurya Krishna C., and NHM Managing Director Saju Bahid A., among others.

Notably, the Sabroom AYUSH Hospital, built at a cost of ₹6.22 crore, will provide treatment in Ayurveda, Yoga, and Homeopathy under one roof.
