Guwahati, May 19: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma are locked in a heated war of words, with Gogoi firing back at Sarma’s allegations of foreign ties. Gogoi has strongly denied these allegations, calling them “absurd” and “bordering on insanity.”
Sarma had publicly alleged that Gogoi visited Pakistan on an invitation from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for training purposes, claiming that the trip was facilitated directly by Pakistan’s Home Department. However, Gogoi has strongly denied these allegations, accusing Sarma of following a script “worse than a B-grade film.”
“I am worried about the health of the Chief Minister of Assam,” Gogoi wrote on social media platform X. “For some reason best known to him, I have been on his radar since my entry into Assam. He has made many baseless remarks about me over the last 13 years.”
Gogoi also accused Sarma of acting like an “IT cell troll” and recycling lies without producing any concrete facts. “A Chief Minister should not behave like a troll. If he has proof, he should place it in the public domain,” he urged.
The Congress MP emphasized that his party’s focus remains on Assam’s economic distress and the thriving coal-drug mafia under political protection. “We will ensure that after 2026, he (Sarma) gets to have some rest,” Gogoi warned, hinting at a potential change in government in the upcoming Assembly elections.
The escalating spat between the two leaders has added another layer of political drama in Assam, with both sides trading sharp attacks over social media.
