Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that Assam has recorded a significant improvement in its Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) over the last two decades, marking a major advancement in the state’s healthcare system.
Sharing the update on his official X handle, Sarma stated that the MMR has dropped from 480 in 2006 to 125 in 2022, describing it as one of the steepest declines in the country. He credited the progress to sustained efforts in maternal and child healthcare.
“This transformation reflects our unwavering commitment to maternal and child health a journey I have personally been part of, first as Health Minister and now as Chief Minister,” he wrote, calling it a moment of immense personal satisfaction.
The Chief Minister also thanked healthcare workers across Assam, including doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, and health officials, for their dedication in making this achievement possible.
