Guwahati, May 12: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday laid the foundation stone for two major hotel projects Marriott Resort & Spa and Fairfield by Marriott in Guwahati, marking a significant step towards enhancing the state’s hospitality infrastructure.

The projects, worth ₹500 crore, are being developed under agreements signed during the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. Construction work for both properties has commenced within just three months of the MoUs being signed.

“Guwahati gets a leg up on attracting global hospitality chains,” the Chief Minister said, adding, “Work has begun in just three months that’s the speed of a new Assam.”

These projects are expected to significantly boost tourism, generate direct and indirect employment, and contribute to the economic growth of the state.

  • Great speed of execution. This is what is needed for a new Assam and Northeast India. We should also expedite construction of key projects like Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, IIM Guwahati campus, etc.
