The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Assam on April 9, warning of heavy rains and widespread wet spells across northern, eastern, and northeastern states. Southern India is expected to experience hot and humid conditions during the same period.
Day temperatures are forecast to remain below normal to near normal in most parts of northwest, central, and east India over the next three to four days. Maharashtra is likely to see a gradual rise of 2–3°C in maximum temperatures until April 11, with little change thereafter.
In hilly regions, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall, snowfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph (gusting up to 50 kmph) are expected in Jammu & Kashmir through April 11, and in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand on April 9.
The northeast is expected to see significant rainfall: isolated heavy showers are forecast for Arunachal Pradesh on April 9 and 12; Assam and Meghalaya on April 9–10; and Tripura on April 9. Isolated hailstorms may also occur in Meghalaya today.
Further east, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 30–50 kmph (gusting up to 60 kmph) is expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim until April 12; Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand on April 9; Odisha on April 9–10; and Chhattisgarh today.
Southern states are likely to experience hot and humid weather: Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala today; Goa on April 10–11; coastal Gujarat from April 11–14; Odisha from April 12–14; and coastal Karnataka until April 11.
Delhi is expected to remain mostly clear today after the yellow rain alert was lifted, with minimum temperatures at 14–16°C (below normal) and maximum temperatures at 30–32°C (appreciably below normal).
