Guwahati, May 22: A one-day special session of the Assam Legislative Assembly will be held on June 9 to pass a proposal to rename Dibrugarh airport after Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday.
The proposal is part of the state government’s initiative to mark the birth centenary of the legendary singer and composer. The Assam Cabinet had earlier approved the decision.
In a post on social media platform X, Sarma stated, “Hon’ble Governor, Shri @Laxmanacharya54 ji has called for a One Day special session of @AssamAssembly on June 9, 2025 to pass a proposal on renaming the Dibrugarh Airport after Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.”
