Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate India’s first bamboo-based ethanol plant at Numaligarh on September 8. Ahead of the visit, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the preparations and chaired a meeting with ministers, MPs, and senior officials at the Numaligarh Refinery.

The bamboo-based bio-refinery, developed with an investment of around ₹4,000 crore, is a major step toward promoting green energy and sustainable fuel alternatives in the country.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Dhansiri Nagar township for refinery staff and briefed the media about key upcoming projects under Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), including a ₹600 crore specialty unit in Kamrup and new product lines planned under the refinery’s expansion.
