Guwahati, May 12: United States Ambassador Sergio Gor on Tuesday said his country will seek to expand commercial engagement with Assam, identifying new opportunities that could benefit both sides.
Gor was in Guwahati to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who made history as the first BJP leader and the only non-Congress chief minister to assume office for two consecutive terms in the state.
“Honored to have been invited to Guwahati today to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” Gor wrote on social media. He added that the United States and Assam already share many commercial ties and, under Sarma’s leadership, more “win-win scenarios” would be explored.
Alongside Sarma, four legislators BJP’s Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP’s Atul Bora, and Charan Boro of the BPF also took oath as ministers. The ceremony at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as well as several diplomats and leading industrialists.
