Agartala, April 13, 2026: In a significant cultural initiative, the Northeast Frontier Railway has developed a new cultural ground, “Bihutoli,” at Maligaon to host Bihu and other major cultural events. In a heartfelt tribute to celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, the venue has been named “Zubeen Garg Railway Bihutoli,” reflecting the deep admiration for the artist across Assam.

The newly developed Bihutoli is equipped with modern amenities, including a permanent stage, dining hall, toilet complex, community space, boundary wall, and an all-weather ground. The facility is set to host the annual Rongali Bihu celebrations organized by Pandu Bihu Sanmilani from April 14 to 17, 2026.

Ahead of the festivities, a pre-Bihu inaugural programme was recently held at the venue, attended by Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway. The event was marked by vibrant traditional Bihu performances and saw enthusiastic participation from railway officials, local residents, and cultural enthusiasts.

Adding emotional significance to the occasion, Palmee Borthakur was present and conveyed gratitude on behalf of the family for the honour bestowed upon the iconic artist.

The initiative highlights Northeast Frontier Railway’s commitment to promoting regional culture and honouring influential figures who have contributed immensely to society. Naming the Bihutoli after Zubeen Garg stands as a tribute to his enduring legacy, especially during the culturally rich festival of Rongali Bihu, which holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Assam.
