Shillong, June 12: A Bangladeshi national who was stranded for several hours in no-man’s land along the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya was handed over to his relatives on Thursday after his identity was verified, officials confirmed.

The incident unfolded in the Nandirchar sector near Mahendraganj in South West Garo Hills district, where a dispute over the man’s nationality led to a tense standoff between personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). The confrontation drew attention after videos of the exchange circulated widely on social media, though PTI could not independently verify their authenticity.

According to officials, the matter was resolved once verification established the individual’s identity, paving the way for his safe handover to family members. The episode highlighted the sensitivity of border management in the region, where questions of nationality often spark friction between the forces of both countries.
