Agartala, December 18, 2025: Tripura’s North District police administration has achieved a major breakthrough in the Prasenjit Sarkar death case. Acting under sustained public pressure and continuous protests, police late Wednesday night arrested three prime accused Sushmita Bhattacharjee, Sangeeta Bhattacharjee, and Saurav Bhattacharjee from Assam’s Karimganj area.
Two other accused linked to the incident remain absconding, prompting intensified search operations across multiple locations.
Police sources informed that the arrests were made during a special raid based on secret intelligence inputs. The accused were brought under tight security to the North District court, where hundreds of local residents gathered, reflecting the widespread public anger over the case. Additional police forces were deployed to maintain order.
Following the court’s directive, the three accused were sent to judicial custody. Even during their transfer to jail, crowds kept a close watch, underscoring the heightened emotions surrounding the case. Citizens who had been part of the long-running protests reiterated their demand for exemplary punishment of those responsible for Sarkar’s death.
The death of Prasenjit Sarkar had triggered intense outrage across the region. Several social organizations and local residents had staged continuous demonstrations demanding justice. Protesters have welcomed the arrests as a significant step forward in their struggle.
Police confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining two fugitives and assured that they will soon be brought under the purview of law. Investigators also emphasized that the probe is being strengthened to uncover every aspect of the case and ensure strict action against all culprits.
