Agartala, December 23, 2025: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustained bullet injuries in a firing incident along the India–Bangladesh border in Tripura’s North district on December 23.
The injured jawan has been identified as Bipin Kumar, 35, of the BSF’s 97th Battalion. He was posted at the Maheshpur border outpost under the Dharmanagar subdivision when the incident took place.
According to officials, Kumar received gunshot wounds while on duty. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors detected two injury marks on his shoulder. Following initial treatment, he was referred to GB Pant Hospital in Agartala for specialised medical attention.
Medical authorities have confirmed that his condition remains stable.
Police sources indicated that preliminary observations point to the possibility of an accidental or deliberate self-inflicted shot. Officers, however, noted that the circumstances surrounding the firing are not yet clear. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the incident.
