Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday emphasized the urgent need to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, as he arrived in Imphal on a two-day visit aimed at engaging with various stakeholders.
Speaking to reporters at Imphal Airport, Sangma said, “It is important to engage. If we don’t connect with the grassroots and the people, then somewhere we are missing the point. Our idea is to reach out to the people, listen, and take suggestions.”
During his visit, the NPP chief is scheduled to meet party leaders, community representatives, and members of civil society to understand the prevailing situation and explore ways to contribute to peace efforts.
“My visit is to assess the situation and see how we, as a party, can play a role in ensuring peace returns to the state. We are here to serve the people, do our best, and leave it to the people to decide,” Sangma added.
Taking to X, Sangma said, “In Imphal to engage in meaningful consultations with civil society organisations and concerned individuals. Our aim is to listen, understand, and address the unresolved issues affecting the state. The NPP remains firmly committed to working alongside the people of Manipur to foster peace, harmony, and lasting progress.”
The NPP currently has seven MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Legislative Assembly.
