Agartala, May 08, 2026: Tripura Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Friday said that the state government is committed to strengthening and expanding the Public Distribution System (PDS) to ensure that its benefits reach people from all sections of society.
Speaking after attending a seminar titled “Safe Products, Confident Consumers” at Pragya Bhawan, the minister said the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has been continuously working to make the PDS more effective and consumer-friendly across the state.
The seminar witnessed the participation of representatives from Fair Price Shop Management Committees, ration dealers and various trade associations from different subdivisions of Tripura.

Later, Chowdhury also chaired a review meeting with Fair Price Shop dealers and merchant associations to assess the functioning of the state’s PDS and the supply of essential commodities. During the meeting, various operational challenges faced by stakeholders were discussed in detail.
“The Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is committed to strengthening and fortifying the Public Distribution System within the state, as well as ensuring that its benefits reach people across all sections of society,” the minister said.
He added that discussions were held on collaborative measures to further consolidate the PDS network and address the issues faced by dealers and traders. Necessary directives were also issued to senior officials present at the meeting for resolving the problems effectively.
Chowdhury urged all stakeholders associated with the Public Distribution System to cooperate with the Food Department in ensuring that consumers do not face any inconvenience while availing services under the PDS framework.
