Agartala, April 9, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jahar Chakraborty exercised his franchise on Thursday morning at the Chandrapur Higher Secondary School polling station during the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election.
Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Chakraborty alleged that during the Left Front and Congress regimes, voters were unable to freely exercise their democratic rights. He claimed that under BJP rule, citizens are now voting “fearlessly in a festive atmosphere.”
Chakraborty further stated that BJP workers had reached their respective polling stations as early as 5 a.m. today to ensure smooth conduct of the election. He accused the CPI(M) and Congress of failing to even field polling agents at several booths.
He also emphasized that voting across the Dharmanagar constituency was proceeding peacefully.
