‘Durgotsava’ Strengthens Unity & Harmony, Says Tripura CM Dr Manik Saha at ‘Mayer Gomon’ Carnival

Agartala, October 15, 2024: The bond of unity and harmony among the diverse caste and ethnic communities of Tripura is being further reinforced as the state gears up for the Durgotsava celebrations. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha emphasized this initiative while inaugurating the ‘Mayer Gomon-2024’ program in front of the Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ High School here in Agartala city on Tuesday evening. The Chief Minister stated, “Our government is dedicated to fostering the spirit of ‘Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura’ by promoting harmony among all communities.”

Reflecting on the rich traditions of the state, Chief Minister Saha noted, “Even during the royal period, we witnessed grand processions in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School for the idol dedication ceremonies. This year, we have decided to continue this cherished tradition by organizing the ‘Mayer Gomon’ ceremony at the same location.” Various local clubs were invited to participate in this ceremonial send-off for the idols, highlighting community involvement in the festivities.

In his address, Saha highlighted the enhancements made to Dasmighat, undertaken by the Agartala Municipal Corporation to ensure a smooth and organized idol worship experience. “I extend my heartfelt thanks to the workers at all levels, including the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation, for their efforts in modernizing this important site,” he said.

Echoing the Chief Minister’s sentiments, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar remarked on the community’s enthusiastic response to the ‘Mayer Gomon’ ceremony over the past two years. “This year, we are witnessing even greater enthusiasm among residents. Thanks to the diligent efforts of our state government, we can celebrate ‘Durgotsav’ in a peaceful and orderly manner,” he stated.

Dr. Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the origin of the ‘Mayer Gomon’ initiative, which began in 2022. He revealed that this year’s procession would again take place in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ HS School and encouraged local clubs in Agartala to actively participate in the event.

A notable 45 clubs participated in this year’s ‘Mayer Gomon,’ showcasing the strong community spirit. To recognize excellence, three clubs will receive awards in various categories. The prizes include Rs 50,000 for the first-place club, Rs 30,000 for the second, and Rs 20,000 for the third. Additionally, awards will be given for the best-organized puja at the district level.

The event also saw the presence of key officials, including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Janjati Kalyan Minister Bikash Debbarma, and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, among others. The collaborative efforts of these leaders illustrate the government’s commitment to fostering a harmonious and united society during the auspicious Durgotsava celebrations.
