Agartala, June 17, 2026: Emphasizing the importance of modern technology, quality inputs, and farmer-centric policies, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday highlighted the state government’s commitment to transforming agriculture into a profitable and sustainable sector.
Addressing a one-day workshop under the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ in North Tripura district, he highlighted the need for scientific farming practices, improved irrigation, and wider awareness of government schemes to boost productivity and safeguard farmers’ livelihoods.
A one-day agricultural workshop was organized on Wednesday in North Tripura district under the district-level ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ (Save the Farm Campaign), with the objective of safeguarding farmers’ interests, protecting crops, and promoting the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.
The workshop, organized by the State Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, was held at the community hall of Ragna Higher Secondary School in Dharmanagar. The programme commenced at 1 PM and was inaugurated by Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
A large number of farmers from different parts of the district attended the workshop, along with agricultural officials and public representatives. The event focused on creating awareness among farmers about advanced farming techniques, effective pest and disease management, methods to enhance crop productivity, and the benefits of various government schemes.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Jahar Chakraborty stated that the state government is implementing several farmer-centric schemes aimed at improving agricultural output and ensuring economic upliftment of farmers. He expressed optimism that initiatives like the ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ would significantly enhance farmers’ awareness regarding modern agricultural practices and sustainable farming.
In his keynote address, Minister Ratan Lal Nath emphasized that the government is giving top priority to the development of the farming community. He highlighted the importance of modern technology, quality seed distribution, expansion of irrigation facilities, and farmer training programmes in transforming agriculture into a profitable sector. He further remarked that the nation’s overall progress is closely linked to the comprehensive development of farmers and urged them to take full advantage of government initiatives.
Farmers actively participated in the workshop and showed keen interest in the discussions. Many expressed satisfaction over the opportunity to interact directly with agricultural experts and gain practical knowledge about modern farming methods.
Among the distinguished guests present were Dharmanagar MLA Jahar Chakraborty, Bagbasa MLA Jadab Lal Debnath, Uttar Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Aparna Nath, the North District Agriculture Director, social worker Kajal Das, and Kalachhara Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Tinku Sharma, along with several officials from the Agriculture Department.
Officials stated that such initiatives would play a crucial role in strengthening the agricultural sector by enhancing farmers’ skills and knowledge. The enthusiastic participation of farmers reflected the relevance and success of the programme.
