Agartala, March 07, 2026: The GBP Hospital achieved a major milestone on Friday as its newly built Trauma Block hosted its first emergency neurosurgery, just a day after being formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha.
The procedure was carried out in the state-of-the-art major operation theatre located adjacent to the emergency department, a development expected to drastically improve response times for critically injured patients. Hospital authorities said the new facility will enable faster, more effective surgical interventions in trauma cases.
The operation was led by Dr. Siddha Reddy, Head of the Neurosurgery Department, along with Dr. Debadatta Saha. They were assisted by Dr. Bhaskar Majumdar, Dr. Swapan Debbarma, and the anaesthesia team.
Supporting staff included Sister Bukhwari Jamatia, Sangeeta Sangma, Pallab Baidya, Shubhayan Chakraborty, and OT technician Arup Chowdhury, alongside other GDA members. Officials noted that the successful completion of the surgery reflected the coordinated efforts of the entire team.
Hospital sources described the launch of surgical services in the Trauma Block as the beginning of a “new chapter” in emergency care, significantly boosting GBP Hospital’s capacity to deliver timely and advanced treatment to trauma patients.
