Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu Inaugurates 4th Tripura Fisheries Festival in Agartala, Calls for Scientific Fish Farming

Agartala, March 14, 2026: Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Governor of Tripura, on Friday evening inaugurated the 4th Tripura Fisheries Festival at the Children’s Park, Agartala, urging fish farmers to adopt scientific techniques to increase productivity and ensure sustainable growth in the fisheries sector.

The festival, organized by the state Fisheries Department, brought together fish farmers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders from across the state to showcase innovations and promote fish farming.

Addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasized the importance of modern scientific practices in aquaculture. “Fish farmers should adopt proper scientific methods in fish farming to obtain maximum benefits and increase productivity,” he said. He also encouraged farmers of the state to participate in various national-level festivals and exhibitions to broaden their exposure and motivation.

Highlighting the need for knowledge exchange, the Governor suggested that fish farmers from Tripura should be sent to other states to learn advanced fish farming techniques and best practices. He further stressed that the department should take initiatives to ensure proper insurance coverage and credit facilities for fish farmers and fish production companies.

“The Fisheries Department must work with a clear roadmap so that Tripura can achieve self-sufficiency in fish production,” the Governor said.

Speaking at the event, Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das said the state government has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen the fisheries sector. “A dedicated fisheries policy has been introduced to develop fish farming and make the state self-reliant in fish production,” he said.

He added that the government is encouraging people, especially the youth, to take up fish farming as a viable livelihood option to become financially self-reliant.

Among those present at the event were Dipak Majumder, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, MLA Minarani Sarkar, Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadipati Biswajit Shil, Fisheries Department Secretary Dr. Deepa D. Nair and Fisheries Director Santosh Das.

During the programme, the Governor felicitated several fish farmers for their notable success in fish farming. He also visited different stalls set up at the festival and interacted with fish farmers and fish sellers, exchanging views on improving the fisheries sector in the state.
