A day after a landslide at Mawlieh along the Shillong-Dawki Road claimed two lives, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong stated that the government may pursue additional land acquisition to permanently mitigate the recurring hazard.
Describing the incident as deeply unfortunate, Tynsong confirmed that officials from the Civil Administration, Police, NHIDCL, and the implementing agency have been directed to investigate the cause of the collapse. Following a site inspection, authorities have ordered the temporary closure of the affected stretch to ensure public safety.
Appealing for cooperation, the Deputy Chief Minister urged commuters to bear with the inconvenience, stressing that the area remains unsafe. He emphasized that acquiring more land could be necessary to implement long-term preventive measures, thereby ensuring safer travel along this vital route connecting Shillong to Dawki.
