In a crucial bid to restore political stability in Manipur, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators reaffirmed their unity and commitment to forming a government focused on development and peace. The meeting, held on Saturday at the party’s state headquarters in Imphal, was chaired by state BJP president A. Sharda Devi.
The gathering followed a similar discussion held late Friday night at the residence office of senior BJP leader and MLA Th. Biswajit Singh.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Sharda Devi stated, “All BJP legislators are united. We discussed the formation of the government amid the ongoing conflict. The government should prioritise development while working to restore peace and normalcy in the state.”
BJP Manipur vice-president Ch. Chidananda Singh highlighted that the decision regarding government formation lies with the party’s central leadership. “Formation of the government fully depends on the wisdom of the party high command. I hope they will take the matter seriously and act at the appropriate time,” he said.
The meeting centered around two key issues: accelerating the restoration of peace in the violence-hit state and addressing public demands for a popular and functioning government. Chidananda clarified that internal party matters were not discussed during the meeting and refrained from providing a timeline for government formation. However, he expressed optimism that a resolution would be reached soon.
Echoing the sentiment, BJP MLA Kh. Ibomcha said, “We are preparing to form the government. A meeting with central leaders has not been scheduled yet, but it is likely to happen.”
The Manipur BJP remains under pressure to reestablish a stable governance structure amid ongoing tensions and growing public discontent.
