The Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, today graced the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Akashvani Imphal held at the City Convention Centre, Imphal. The event marked 60 years of Akashvani Imphal’s dedicated service to the people of Manipur and the nation.
During the celebration, the Governor released the Diamond Jubilee Souvenir and distributed citations to officers of Akashvani Imphal and sponsors of the event. The ceremony was attended by Anurag Bajpai, Additional Chief Secretary; Rajiv Kumar Jain, Director General of Akashvani; Satyajeet Dash, Additional Director General, Akashvani NEZ; and senior officials of the State Government.
In his address, Governor Bhalla congratulated the Akashvani Imphal fraternity for six decades of distinguished service since its inception on 15th August 1963. He lauded the station’s pivotal role in promoting national unity, preserving Manipur’s cultural identity, and amplifying voices from remote regions through multilingual programming. He also commended Akashvani Imphal’s integrity, professionalism, and innovation in public broadcasting — highlighting its pioneering efforts in digital platforms, including 24×7 YouTube live streaming. With over 22 national awards to its credit, Akashvani Imphal, he said, stands as a beacon of dedication and creativity.
Reflecting on the responsibilities of the media in today’s changing landscape, the Governor urged journalists and broadcasters to uphold truth, restraint, and ethical values. “The journalist’s pen and the broadcaster’s microphone are powerful tools — they can either heal or harm. The responsibility to use them wisely rests with every media professional,” he remarked. He emphasized that responsible media should inform, enlighten, and unite people rather than divide them.
