The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, celebrated National Press Day 2025 at the DIPR Auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal, under the theme “Safeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation.” The programme was graced by Hungyo Worshang, IAS, Secretary (IPR), as Chief Guest, Director (IPR) Ngangom Uttam Singh as President, and senior journalist Pradip Phanjoubam as Guest of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Hungyo Worshang said National Press Day symbolises a free and responsible press and emphasised the relevance of this year’s theme amid the increasing spread of misinformation. Director Ngangom Uttam Singh highlighted the powerful influence of both information and misinformation in shaping public sentiment, stressing the need for accuracy and responsibility in the fast-paced news environment. Guest of Honour Pradip Phanjoubam reflected on the rapid evolution of media technologies and urged journalists to adapt to new tools, particularly those driven by Artificial Intelligence.

The Manipur State Journalist Awards 2025 were presented to seven journalists for their outstanding contributions across various fields. Sanasam Kritivas Singh was honoured for Science and Technology Reporting; Dr. Khaidem Athouba Meitei for Parliamentary Reporting; Kharibam Yaiphaba Meitei for Reporting with Special Reference to Women and Children; Boney Thongamcha Singh for Arts and Culture Reporting; Alka Thokchom for Sports Reporting; and Hemchandra Shagolshem for Public Health and Hygiene Reporting. The Best Editor Award for National Integration and Communal Harmony was conferred on Aribam Robindro Sharma. Each award carried a cash prize, citation and shawl.
The observance concluded with a workshop on this year’s theme, moderated by Pradip Phanjoubam. Senior journalist K. Sarojkumar Sharma spoke on safeguarding press credibility, while Impact TV Chief Editor Rupachandra Yumnam discussed the challenges posed by misinformation and strategies to counter it.
