Manipur: Thoubal Steps Up Anti-Drug Drive, Strengthens Enforcement And Regulation

District Magistrate Yumnam Robita on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the District Level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to review enforcement measures and ongoing initiatives aimed at curbing drug abuse in the district.

During the meeting, the District Magistrate presented the District Level Roadmap for Drug Control to the committee, seeking suggestions and feedback. She stressed that the core objective remains to combat drug abuse, trafficking, and the consumption of tobacco and alcohol through a coordinated approach.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Prabhakar informed the committee that close coordination is being maintained between district police and paramilitary forces to effectively intercept drug trafficking activities.

District Social Welfare Officer K. Nongpoknganba Salaicha highlighted regulatory measures, stating that all non-registered de-addiction and rehabilitation centres have been directed to register under the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur. He added that strict action will be taken against any unauthorised centres once a formal Speaking Order is issued by the Director of Social Welfare.

The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, was attended by Additional District Magistrate Aribam Amarjit Sharma, AC to DC Tensubam Sangeeta, NCORD members, central police personnel, and other district officials.
