Security forces arrested three individuals and seized a large quantity of suspected brown sugar in Manipur’s Chandel district, while a separate joint operation led to the destruction of illicit poppy cultivation in Churachandpur district.
According to official sources, the arrests were made on March 10 from PVCP Salluk COB under Chakpikarong Police Station in Chandel district. The arrested individuals have been identified as Thaongminthang (34) of Moreh Ward No. 2, Nengboi Haokip (48) of Khonomphai, and Ch. Nemneikim Mate (46), also from Khonomphai, all residents of Tengnoupal district.
Security forces recovered 58 soap cases of suspected brown sugar, three mobile phones, and an Eco Van bearing registration number MN06LX/4037 along with other documents from their possession.
In a separate operation on March 11, security forces in coordination with the Forest Department destroyed approximately six acres of illicit poppy plantation at Haopi Mollen under Sangaikot Police Station in Churachandpur district.
Authorities said such operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and illegal poppy cultivation in the state.
