Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma held a meeting with officials from Germany’s KfW Development Bank on Tuesday to discuss a collaborative initiative aimed at reshaping Meghalaya’s agricultural sector. The proposed project seeks to institutionalize agroecological and organic farming as the foundation of a sustainable and climate-resilient economy for the state.

The discussions centered on creating income-generating systems that safeguard the long-term livelihoods of local farmers while promoting environmentally responsible practices. Sangma underscored his commitment to working with international partners to expand economic opportunities for the farming community, expressing optimism about advancing sustainable agriculture through this collaboration.

The initiative envisions blending traditional farming knowledge with modern scientific methods to improve productivity and strengthen market linkages for organic produce. By applying ecological principles to agricultural systems, the partnership aims to mitigate climate change impacts on natural resources while establishing a robust financial framework for rural households.
