Shillong, Mar 7: Meghalaya Police, in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), seized drugs valued at over Rs 51 crore in East Jaintia Hills district, marking the state’s largest-ever narcotics bust. Two Mizoram residents, allegedly part of an interstate trafficking syndicate, were arrested in the operation.
The seizure took place during a joint naka-checking operation at Ratacherra on Friday. Police intercepted a vehicle carrying three people and conducted a search. Officers recovered 203.7 grams of suspected heroin from one occupant and 10.145 kg of banned crystal methamphetamine (meth) tablets from a blue trolley bag belonging to another.
ANTF chief Vikash Kumar estimated the street value of the seized contraband at Rs 51.13 crore. A case has been registered at the ANTF police station, and investigations are ongoing to trace the syndicate’s networks.
