Shillong, Feb 3: Meghalaya has been allocated ₹9,631 crore in tax devolution for the 2026-27 fiscal year, enhancing the state’s capacity for capital spending and infrastructure development, officials said.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2026-27 in the Lok Sabha on Sunday, providing Meghalaya with increased flexible funds to support key developmental initiatives.
Central support to the state has grown steadily over the years, with ₹69,339 crore in tax devolution and ₹40,452 crore in grants-in-aid provided between 2014 and 2024. The state has also benefited from the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, receiving ₹6,523 crore in interest-free loans from 2020-21 to January 2026, which has accelerated capital projects.
Meghalaya’s infrastructure has seen significant gains, including over 1,156 km of National Highways completed by June 30, 2025, and 170 km approved under the Bharatmala Pariyojana at ₹2,703 crore. Welfare schemes have also expanded, with over 8.98 lakh Jan Dhan accounts and PM Mudra Yojana loans exceeding ₹3,300 crore as of January 2026.
