The Voice of the People Party (VPP) organised a public rally at Lawmusiang in Jowai to present its eight-point charter of demands directed at the NPP-led MDA 2.0 government.

During the event, VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit addressed the gathering and rejected allegations that the party had politicised the Lumpongdeng issue. He stated that VPP’s involvement was based on concerns over public safety during protests led by the Green-Tech Foundation Meghalaya, adding that the organisation had played a leading role in the movement.

The rally also focused on several issues raised by the party, including a demand to exempt long-serving teachers from appearing for the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET) at later stages of their careers. Concerns related to youth welfare, border residents, and economically weaker sections were also discussed, particularly in relation to land and livelihood matters.

On the reservation policy, Basaiawmoit said the party is reviewing legal options and may approach the courts, reiterating its focus on pursuing reforms and addressing public concerns.
