Agartala, January 29, 2026: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Thursday announced that the state is striving to become the country’s leader in uninterrupted electricity supply, with a strong push towards clean and renewable energy.
Speaking at a programme jointly organised by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) at the TSECL Corporate Office, Nath distributed e-bicycles to 30 ASHA facilitators and outlined the government’s vision for 24×7 power.
The minister praised the engineers of the department, calling them “highly capable and committed,” and stressed the importance of collective effort. “No work can be done without power. We must focus on clean and green energy. Through solar power, we are already providing water supply in 25 villages. Tripura currently ranks fourth in the country, but our goal is to become number one in ensuring round-the-clock electricity,” he said.
Highlighting the economics of energy generation, Nath noted that hydropower costs between Rs 7 crore and Rs 20 crore per megawatt, while gas-based generation ranges from Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore. Solar power, however, is comparatively cheaper at around Rs 4 crore per megawatt. “If we expand solar power across the state, Tripura can lead the nation. Solar pumps installed over nearly 38,000 kani of land are ensuring water supply for 25 years, while households benefit from zero electricity bills,” he added.
Turning to community health, Nath lauded the dedication of ASHA workers, describing them as “the real warriors of society.” He commended their door-to-door efforts in child vaccination and community service, urging society to stand by them.
The event was attended by Power Secretary Abhishek Singh, NHM Member Secretary Soubhik Debbarma, and other officials.
