Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), held an interaction with members of the Save Chite Lui Coordination Committee and senior Public Works Department (PWD) officials at Lok Bhavan on Monday afternoon. As patron of the committee, the Governor was briefed on Phase 2 of the Save Chite Lui Action Plan, which focuses on the conservation and restoration of the Chite River.
During the meeting, the Governor emphasized the importance of collective and sustained action to rejuvenate the river. He proposed the installation of strategic check gates and small dams to systematically remove waste, coupled with extensive plantation drives along the riverbanks. He also urged stronger collaboration among communities, NGOs, and government departments, while advising that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) be simplified to ensure practicality and effective implementation. Reaffirming his full support, he offered suggestions to strengthen the project’s success.
Officials presented a detailed overview of ongoing efforts through a PowerPoint presentation, highlighting the collaboration between the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and the PWD in implementing Phase 2 of the action plan.
The meeting was attended by Rochamliana, General Secretary of the Save Chite Lui Coordination Committee, Er. Lalrinngheta, SE, along with other senior PWD officials.
