Aizawl, May 19: The Mizoram government has rescinded its earlier order re‑employing retired official R Lalrodingi as Director of the Tourism Department, following objections raised over the appointment.

Lalrodingi, who retired on April 30 as Additional Director in the Commerce, Industries, Geology and Mining Department, had been approved for re‑employment on April 24. The order designated her as Tourism Director and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Chief Minister, effective May 1.

However, after the influential student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) urged the government to put the decision on hold, the administration issued a revised notification on May 15. The new arrangement cancelled her appointment as Tourism Director, while retaining her role as OSD to the Chief Minister.

Officials confirmed that Lalrodingi will continue in the OSD position on a co‑terminus basis, meaning her tenure will conclude with the present government’s term. Under this revised order, she will hold the rank of secretary in the state government.
