Aizawl, Nov 20: TBC Lalvenchhunga, Finance and Planning Advisor to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, has resigned from his post, an official said on Wednesday. The resignation comes soon after the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) lost the Dampa assembly by-election to the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF).

According to officials, Lalvenchhunga submitted his resignation on Monday. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, however, told reporters that he has not yet accepted it. The Chief Minister currently has five advisors with the rank of minister of state, including four MLAs.

Lalvenchhunga said he stepped down to focus on his responsibilities as an MLA and to work more effectively for both the government and the party. He stated that resigning from the advisor’s post would allow him to devote more time to his legislative duties.

Lalvenchhunga, a former member of the People’s Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM), contested the 2018 assembly and 2019 Lok Sabha elections under the party’s banner. He won the Aizawl West-I seat in the 2023 assembly polls by defeating former MNF MLA Zothantluanga before being appointed as Finance and Planning Advisor.
