Agartala, May 16, 2025: Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, began his two-day official visit to Agartala and South Tripura district today, marking a series of engagements focused on reviewing development work and strengthening government outreach in the region.
Before commencing his official schedule, Dr. Murugan offered prayers at the sacred Tripureshwari Temple in Udaipur, paying homage at one of the most revered shrines in Tripura.
Upon his arrival in Belonia, the district headquarters of South Tripura, the Minister was received by District Collector Mohammed Sajjad P. and Superintendent of Police Maurya Krishna Chandra. He subsequently chaired a high-level review meeting with district officials, assessing the progress of several flagship central schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Ayushman Bharat – PM Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), and PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).

“In the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, border villages are not the last, but the first to be developed. Every citizen must have access to clean drinking water, electricity, roads, and other essential services,” said Dr. Murugan, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive growth across the Northeast.
He expressed satisfaction with the developmental progress in South Tripura, noting that the district’s achievements have surpassed the state average. “I congratulate the district administration. The success of over 28,000 ‘Lakhpati Didis’ here reflects the power of women-led development and grassroots entrepreneurship,” he remarked.

As part of his Information & Broadcasting responsibilities, Dr. Murugan visited the Akashvani Belonia station, where he went on air and interacted with listeners. He also toured the Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital, inspecting its pediatric ward and healthcare facilities, and engaging warmly with patients and staff.
Later, the Minister reviewed infrastructure at the Muhurighat Land Customs Station and a local border check post, evaluating cross-border trade and border management readiness.
His visit will continue tomorrow with participation in the Tiranga Yatra, visits to Anganwadi centers and self-help groups, and an interaction with the Sabuj Sathi Goatery Producer Group at Sukanta Palli Gram Panchayat.
