The 42nd Foundation Day of Achipa Thang-Ta Shindam Sanglen was celebrated with grandeur and patriotic spirit at Bal Vidya Mandir, Palace Compound, showcasing the enduring legacy of Manipur’s ancient martial art form, Thang-Ta.

The celebration was graced by Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), as the Chief Guest. Among other dignitaries present were Brahmacharimayum Bilki Sharma, Acting President of Achipa Thang-Ta Shindam Sanglen; Ningthoujam Ajitkumar, President of KIMACS; and Seetharam Bhat, Organising Secretary of Shiksha Vikash Samiti, Manipur. The event drew participation from instructors, martial artists, and enthusiasts from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Maharaja Sanajaoba highlighted the profound cultural and spiritual significance of Thang-Ta, calling it “the identity of our society.” He emphasized that Thang-Ta is more than a martial art — it is a discipline that fosters moral strength, harmony, and unity, qualities that have sustained Manipur’s civilization for millennia. Reflecting on Manipur’s martial legacy, the Maharaja said that Thang-Ta and the Manipuri Pony have been the two enduring pillars of Manipur’s sovereignty and civilization for over 5,000 years. MP Leishemba Sanajaoba urged every youth and concerned authority to pay heed for the flourishment of our indigenous martial arts, games and sports for a healthier and stronger Manipur.
The celebration concluded with Thang-Ta demonstrations by young practitioners, who impressed the audience with their synchronized movements, agility, and precision. A floral tribute was also offered to Yumnam Babu Mangang, the founder of Achipa Thang-Ta Shindam Sanglen, in honor of his tireless efforts to preserve and promote Manipur’s rich martial heritage.
