Celebrating the spirit, strength and resilience of women, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Sunday observed International Women’s Day 2026 under the theme “Give to Gain” at the Sangai Conference Hall of Hotel Imphal.

Speaking at the event, Dr. SS Olish, MLA of 41-Chandel (ST) Assembly Constituency, said that being born a woman is a blessing and emphasised that every woman should recognise her roles and responsibilities in society. She stated that women must contribute sincerely towards building a harmonious and prosperous family, community and state.

“A world without women is incomplete. Every woman should take pride in being born a woman while understanding her roles and responsibilities and fulfilling them with sincerity and dignity,” she said.

Referring to the present situation in Manipur, Dr. Olish appealed to women to nurture goodwill, unity and mutual understanding, expressing hope that such values would help lead the state towards lasting peace and harmony. She highlighted that women possess innate qualities such as gentleness, kindness, compassion and generosity and encouraged them to use these strengths to promote dialogue and resolve differences amicably rather than allowing conflicts to escalate into violence.

Expressing concern over instances where women undermine one another, she urged them to move beyond such tendencies and stand together in solidarity by uplifting and empowering each other with mutual respect. She further called upon women to contribute positively so that the world may witness the strength, dignity and exemplary character of women of Manipur.

Chairperson of MSCW, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, stated that the role of a good woman is essential in shaping a peaceful and progressive society.

Emphasising the importance of recognising and supporting women, she said the observance aimed to encourage, inspire and uplift women while acknowledging their invaluable contributions to society. Referring to the theme “Give to Gain,” she stressed that every act of help makes a difference and appealed to all to extend support to women in need.

W. Phajatombi Devi, MCS, Member Secretary of MSCW and Additional Director (IPR), Manipur, highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and said the Commission made efforts to celebrate the occasion inclusively with participation from women of different communities. She also appreciated men who support and encourage women, describing them as gentlemen, and urged everyone to recognise and celebrate women.
During the programme, former MSCW chairperson K. Sobita Devi and former members Soibam (O) Neelima Devi, Ranjita Golmei, Lourembam Dayabati Devi, Chuongsin Koireng and Hodam (O) Piteswori (Memi) Devi were felicitated.

A short documentary highlighting the roles and achievements of women of Manipur, featuring prominent women from various fields delivering messages on International Women’s Day, was also screened during the event. The programme was attended by MSCW member SK Sophia Moyon, along with staff and legal advisors of the Commission and women from different communities dressed in traditional attire.
