Kohima, June 11: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has strongly condemned the killing of six Nagas in Manipur, calling the incident horrific, inhuman and deeply shocking.

In a statement, Rio described the killings as a barbaric and reprehensible act, saying it reflects complete disregard for human life and basic principles of humanity. He said the incident deserves strong condemnation from all sections of society.

The Chief Minister said the tragedy was especially painful as it occurred after the Naga people had peacefully and unconditionally facilitated the safe release of 14 hostages who were earlier in their custody. He noted that despite pressure and a volatile situation, the Naga community, under the leadership of the United Naga Council and other apex organisations, exercised restraint and chose the path of peace and compassion.

Rio expressed anguish that the six individuals were later killed despite these efforts. He urged the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to take urgent steps to ensure justice is delivered, and called for the identification, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible under the law.

He also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, saying he shares their grief and stands in solidarity with the affected families and the wider Naga community during what he described as a dark and painful time.
